FAQs

You will find a list of our most frequently asked questions here.  If you have a question that you cannot find the answer to, please drop us a message below.

  • How do I book?

All walks must be pre-booked. Booking for walks and events can ONLY be made through this website using a debit or credit card. Even free walks need to be booked in advance.

You will receive an email confirmation of your booking, which you are asked to bring along to your walk (or show on your smartphone).

Bookings are accepted on a first-come-first-served basis. Pre-booking helps us plan and is advisable because the numbers on each walk are restricted.

Transport costs to start and end points on the walks where necessary are included.

  • How much are the tickets?

From £10 to £15 per walk including transport when necessary. Some walks are free of charge.

A booking charge will be added to ticket prices.

  • What if I have to cancel?

Once you have booked a walk you have 14 days to cancel.  After that, bookings are non-refundable. The booking fee is non-refundable as it is payable to Eventbrite.

In the (hopefully unlikely) event that the Moffat Walking Weekend is cancelled, in whole or in part, participants will receive a refund of their ticket fees only.

Cancellation of travel and hotel reservations is the responsibility of the participant.

We reserve the right to change all or some of the routes if circumstances beyond our control render it impossible to do the original walk.

  • How do I know if the walk is right for me?

If in doubt, take medical advice before booking. We offer walks at various levels. All walks have been graded to give you guidance, they have been calculated on an average walking speed of 1 to 2mph and take account of the gradients involved, the terrain to be encountered as well as normal weather conditions.

    The grades are:

Strenuous: experienced walkers only. For those requiring a challenge of physical fitness and stamina.

Moderate: a walk that will include one or two physically or mentally demanding stretches. There may be a number of ascents and descents which could be considered challenging. The route at times will require careful navigation and foot placement.

Easy: a low-level walk that can be completed without undue stress or physical strain.

  • What if the weather is bad?

Whatever the weather, the walk leader will always be at the appointed meeting place at the scheduled starting time and will make any necessary decision at that time.

  • Can I bring my dog?

No. In the interests of safety for all walkers, dogs (other than registered assistance dogs) will not be accepted on walks. There are many reasons for this including protection of local livestock and ground nesting birds.

  • Can I bring my children?

Our family-friendly walks will be suitable for children as stated.

Some walks may not be suitable for children (for example, the all-day strenuous hikes) nor interesting enough for them. Parents/guardians must assess if a walk is suitable for their children.

If you need childcare during the Moffat Walking Weekend, check out the local nursery: https://www.wiseowlsnurserymoffat.com/.

  • What should I wear?

We recommend sturdy walking boots and plenty of layers of warm clothes, as well as waterproof clothing.

The walk leader may refuse to include any walker whose clothing or equipment is not suitable.

  • How do I get to Moffat?

Take junction 15 from the A74. Moffat is just three minutes from the motorway.

Coming by train? Lockerbie is the nearest station. Moffat is well served with buses from Lockerbie, Dumfries and Glasgow.

  • Where do the walks start?

Unless specified, all walks start from St Andrew's Church Hall (1 Church Place).

Please try to be punctual as walks will start on time in order to give walkers the best experience. The time it takes to complete the walks are approximate allowing walkers the opportunity to take pictures and chat to the walk leaders.

It is ESSENTIAL that you register at the start of every walk and then check back in after each walk so we can account for all walkers.

Refreshments will be available on your return to the church hall.

  • Will there be transport for walks out of town?

Yes, a minibus will drop you off and collect you where necessary. There is no extra charge for transport.

  • Where can I stay?

Check out our accommodation page here →

There is a wide range of accommodation available from B&Bs and hotels to caravan parks and camping sites.

Ask your accommodation provider about storage/drying rooms/packed lunches and other useful facilities.

  • Do I need to bring a first aid kit?

Yes, we would advise all walkers to bring their own first aid kit.

  • If the Moffat Walking Weekend is cancelled, can I still get a refund?

Yes, all tickets will be refunded in full.
