Across the High Horseshoe
A Ten‑Mile Challenge Above Moffat
This strenuous walk of ten miles starts from Black Hope in Moffat Water Valley.
Once you reach the top of Black Hope Valley, the route undulates over several hills around this horseshoe shaped walking loop.
You will be taken by minibus to the start of the trail where the route rises from the valley floor up to Saddle Yoke, continuing on towards Hart Fell Rig and on to the trig point at the summit of Hart Fell.
You will be rewarded with fine views across Black Hope valley and towards the Ettrick hills from several points along the walk.
From the trig point on Hart Fell, the route continues around the valley to Swatte Fell and descends to the road via Hang Gill and back to the start point. The minibus will return us to Moffat.
Top tip This is an all-day walk so please bring a packed lunch, all-weather gear and suitable footwear as the ground can be boggy in places.
