Moffat has been a conservation area since 1970 and the Moffat Heritage Trust was formed in 2019 to celebrate the town's rich architecture.
From Moffat’s oldest building, the Black Bull hotel, which dates back to the 16th century, to the Georgian Town Hall, Moffat’s public buildings are both functional and attractive. Moffat also has a wide range of domestic architecture: the Archbald Moffatt House, a Grade 1 listed building, the Moffat House Hotel, designed by John Adams, the 18th-century cottages in the High Street and the Victorian mansions built when the railway made Moffat into a premier holiday destination.
Your guide will take you on a walk around the town to give you an idea why we who live here wouldn’t live anywhere else.
Evelyn is a retired bank manager and moved to Moffat in 2014. She is hugely involved in Moffat's community life from Civic Pride, St Andrew's Church, the town's Dark Sky status including chairing the Moffat Astronomy Group. She is also engaged in the facilitating work carried out by Moffat Community Council. She is responsible for forming the new Heritage Group and is looking forward to showing off Moffat's fascinating finds on this walk about town.
